Background
A fine dining restaurant with 3 branches globally; Dubai, London & Madrid.
The London Branch is placed right next to Sexy Fish and is easily accessible via Green Park Tube Station.
This restaurant serves Latin American cuisine and is on the £££ - ££££ price scale. The menu includes dishes for sushi lovers, meat eaters as well as vegetarians.
I would highly recommend the sushi 'Amazonico' - amazing!
Atmosphere & Aesthetics
This decor in Amazonico is green, leafy and vibrant - what I would imagine the Amazon rainforest in Brazil to be like. The restaurant features fun design pieces such as peacocks and plants to really make you feel like you've left London and transported to a rural but luxury jungle/fancy forest.
On arrival, we were cheerfully greeted by the front desk staff and shown to our table. The restaurant is a lot bigger than what it appears from the outside, adding to the surreal feeling of being somewhere other than London.
By our table, near the main bit of the restaurant, we had this gorgeous greenery ceiling for views. As the evening progressed, the lighting was dimmed to give a more intimate mood. Our reservation was booked for late afternoon and we definitely enjoyed our time here. Enough to overstay the usual 2 hour booking time!
Due to the social distancing rules, the menu was provided as a QR code on a small card in the restaurant theme colours.

My guest and I had previously indulged in a fantastic afternoon tea at Bafarat, so we longed for something savoury. We proceeded to order 1 starter to share, two sushi dishes, 2 cocktails, chargrilled chicken and some herby potatoes. More than enough food for 2 no-so-hungry diners.

A cheeky selfie and pre-photoshoot photo before our drinks arrived.
From our table, the bartender who made our drinks could be viewed. The drinks were made with such care and expertise. Very tasty, a good balance between sweet and alcoholic and a fantastic presentation!
The drinks in which we ordered, Guaivo (left) & Sangria Blanca (right), were gin-based cocktails priced at £15 each. We would definitely order this again and try other drinks on the menu!
The first dish to arrive was our starter, Patacones Mechados, which was crispy plantain with slow cooked pulled pork and achiote seeds accompanied with red onion garnish and lime (optional squeeze for taste). This is on the menu under 'Amazonico Bites' and priced at £16.
What do I think? I think this dish is fantastic to start with especially if you're not too familiar with Latin American cuisine. It's easy to understand - plantain with seasoned pulled pork on top (simple, tasty and no-brainer dish). It is something I will make at home with my own twist but equally, I would go back to have this. We shared this starter and was not fighting for the last one - so enough to share between two.
Next to arrive were our sushi dishes, Langostino Pibil Maki ( a prawn tempura roll with teriyaki sauce, and achiote miso) & Amazonico Maki (a roll filled with large chunks of mango with a thin layer of avocado placed on top with coconut & cacao nibs). Each sushi dish was served as 8 pieces which was more than enough to share between two. Our prawn dish was priced at £21, whilst our vegetarian dish was priced at £10.
What did I think? Me and my guest felt the Amazonico was outstanding as in we will be back just to have this dish! The prawn tempura was okay, not bad at all but nothing about it felt different from any other prawn tempura maki roll I had previously elsewhere. It is a safe dish for those who do not know what to order and like prawns.

Lastly, the main dish was served, Picanton Caipira (chargrilled baby chicken seasoned with fresh herbs) and Papas al Horno (Josper grilled new potatoes seasoned with a rosemary garnish). Unfortunately, due to recent allergies, I was not able to sample the chicken myself. However, my baby sister (my guest) was highly impressed with the chicken and did struggle to eat the remaining 2 slices left! She reported, 'it's so good and mum would love this'. So, a second visit with my mum may be ocurring soon.
The bill came in such a sleek and simple holder that I just had to take a photo of it.
Overall, I throughly enjoyed my visit to Amazonico, Mayfair. We went on a Wednesday and this restaurant was not participating in the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme. It was worth the final bill and we would go back at a later date. The vibe is very relaxed and would be suitable for a dinner date, quiet night with the older family members and small celebratory occasions. Would not recommend if you are looking for a party feel or require a more fun, energetic celebration location such as Mnky Hse.
Here's a few other photos from the evening:
