Candid Outlook: Laki Kane, Islington

After-work drinks are always something I struggle to plan outfits for because there is no time to go home and change. So, a casual office attire which can be spruced up for the evening works perfectly

On this occasion, the outfit for the after-work drinks were:
A camel coloured basic skirt from Boohoo & a brown snake-print shirt from I Saw It First.
The fabric of the skirt is soft, stretchy and not see-through. Girls, we know how some skirts show every line, bump and crease. Not this skirt! I love the colours of both items put together and a black top was worn underneath to make it more work appropriate.

Now, where did I go after work drinks?!

In the spirit of summer, I was tasked with finding a fun creative bar which was near the city without the city bustle.

Laki Kane had been on my radar for a while as its focus is my tipple of choice. A tiki-theme bar with a rum-based cocktails. A win-win for a girl like me. As standard practice, I had booked in advance. But on arrival, it was not actually necessary as there were a few tables free on an early Thursday evening.

Firstly, it is key to note that this bar is not small, but it is crammed in the arrangement of tables. If you draw the short straw (aka you have a smaller party than 4), you may find yourself in one of the corner tables.

These tables are not uncomfortable, but I would say it can get very warm as you are close to other tables in the bar. I believe there is additional seating upstairs but I never went up so I cannot confirm this.

Secondly, the service is well suited to the atmosphere of the bar. The servers are fully immersed in the Tiki-theme and will greet you with a fresh but warm welcoming.
When seated, you will receive a light juice-based refreshment to help you settle into the Hawaiian vibes whilst you check out the menu.

One fantastic feature is you do not have to shout or wave to get your waiter/waitress’ attention as there is a button which you press to do this.

This button is a well-thought out feature as when the bar does get busier, it gets louder!

Personally, I felt spoilt for choice with the menu as it included a range of concoctions which creatively contained rum. There are other drinks that include other spirits, such as ‘Fatal Attraction. This was a strong drink as the name suggests but it was smooth to drink. It was mixed perfectly without the alcohol over-whelming or over-powering in taste. A rum-based cocktail I do recommend which was my favourite was ‘Pin-up Zombie’.

The food was super yum! The battered squid was well seasoned, light in texture and easy to eat without making mess. Satay chicken skewers went down like a treat and the spring rolls were a little flaky but not overly messy.

In short, this venue is extremely multi-purposeful as it can be the location for after-work drinks, a friendly catch up, leaving drinks or even a birthday. I would say this setting has a celebratory aura, which may not be suitable for an intimate date night with bae but a fun ice breaking first date maybe!
